Time:
11:00AM
Location:
9503 Livingston Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744
Event Description:
Former Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker III will hold a press conference on Tuesday, Dec. 10 to formally announce his candidacy for County Executive, following the resignation of County Executive Angela Alsobrooks on Dec. 2.
A Special Election will be held to determine who will complete the last 2 years of Alsobrooks’ term, and Baker, who previously held the position from 2010 to 2018, has decided to enter the race where he brings experience and expertise to the position.
During his tenure as County Executive, Baker championed transformative economic and public safety initiatives that left a lasting impact on Prince George’s County. Under his leadership, 6,000 jobs were created, nearly 40,000 workers were trained to enter emerging industries, and a $50 million Economic Development Incentive Fund spurred small business growth, transit-oriented development, and reduced travel times.
Baker’s leadership also drove transformative change through major projects like the $1.5 billion MGM Casino, which created 3,500 jobs and fueled economic growth, with nearly half of the positions filled by Prince George’s County residents. In addition, his Transforming Neighborhoods Initiative (TNI) brought together law enforcement, community organizations, and residents in targeted areas, leading to a 58% reduction in violent crime and fostering safer, stronger communities.
With decades of public service experience, including his start as a Maryland House of Delegates representative in 1994, Baker’s deep community connections position him as a seasoned candidate ready to lead Prince George’s County through this unprecedented leadership transition.
